Elie Saab 2015 Haute Couture

My new favorite designer has to be Elie Saab, Lebanese fashion designer from Damour. He is known for having dressed famous celebrities and royalty but is only now expanding his way into the fashion industry. Saab’s passion for design started at the age of 9, sewing together scraps of clothing from his mother’s closet to fit his sister. At the age of 18, he launched his own label in Beirut, despite the civil war causing distress to his business and family.

Saab quickly grew a fan base, more specifically brides and royalty, as his mixed western silhouettes and shapes with a Middle Eastern flair for ornamentation and embellishment drew attention. Saab’s first appearance in America was initiated by Halle Berry at the 2002 Academy Awards. He later on dressed people such as Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Gwyneth Paltrow. He became the first non-Italian designer to be accepted into the Camera Nazionale della Moda, the country’s governing body for Milan Fashion Week, where he debuted his ready-to-wear line. In 2003, he joined the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris where he still remains today as one of the few officially ordained haute couture labels in the world. Saab’s company has now moved to Paris where he plans to continue to grow and expand his brand from his boutiques in Paris, London and Dubai to other parts of the world. His clothes are already on sale in 22 countries and his business has expanded into bags, shoes, fragrances in 2011 and jewelry.

While this season in his haute couture collection gold was the prominent recurring color, the palette also included shades of pink, blue and taupe before moving onto darker tones. He created a perfect balance in his gown collection between high and low necklines, straps, short and flowing sleeves, and silk organza, lace, and mink details. Below you will find just a few of my absolute favorite pieces from the 2015 haute couture collection:
