5 Style Rules to Live by When Wearing Metallic

Thanks to designers like Lanvin, Gucci and Givenchy, it looks like metallic are no longer exclusive to festivities (or the 80s..). Although they are usually reserved for classy dressy events, you can still wear them if you pair the outfit correctly. Pulling off metallic pieces can be a little tricky, but stick to these 5 fashion guidelines and you’ll be able to rock the futuristic look without looking tacky or too shiny:

N1METALLIC SKIRT: A comfortable, light, fun, easygoing sweater downplays the loudness of the shiny metallic skirt.

N2METALLIC SUIT: This was a trend we used to see back in the 80s! Yes, you can bring the metallic fashion trend to the office, but be prepared to pair it with simple, basic colors such as grey and black so as to not blind people in the cubicle next to you. I personally would opt for not wearing a matching blazer, so as to not overdo it. Instead stick to a casual top to tone down the loose or tight pant suit look.

METALLIC MOTO JACKET: Want to keep it simple and edgy? We’ve all heard of the leather jacket being a staple and essential piece to any woman’s wardrobe. Why not make the metallic moto jacket or blazer a staple piece as well? Instead of the usual black and brown leather jacket, opt for a silver or gold metallic jacket. Wear it on top of a simple white or black dress and your all set for a quick switch from the office to a night out!

N4METALLIC SHOES: Subtle, yet sexy. Since shoes are a small part of your look, they are easy to pair with any outfit really. Pair it with a nice metallic handbag to emphasize the sparkle even more. I prefer to place them on an all black or an all white outfit to make an even louder fashion statement, but that’s just me!

Lastly, you can never go wrong with a classy yet simple metallic dress for any classy evening occasion.

If there is one piece of advice I hope you take away from this article. It is that you always and I mean..ALWAYS pair metallics during the day with a matte finish. Matte finishes are the safer options since metallics are already very much “in your face” as it is. My suggestion is to keep it fairly simple and try to wear one metallic piece per outfit to make it the focal point of your look.
